Context:

This study group is being formed to draw together like minded information and systems security individuals to learn together and from one another.  The primary purpose of this group is to strengthen and expand the attendees’ knowledgeand skill set.    This should provide for a more informed and sound information security.

Mission and Objectives:

The mission of this group is to strengthen and expand participants’ information and systems security knowledge and skill set by peers working with peers.

Composition and Roles:

The group will be co-chaired by Joseph and MalwareGuy of which at least one will moderate the group’s gatherings.

The group will be open to those with an interest in expanding and strengthening their information and systems security knowledge and skills.  Participants are expected to act in a professional and courteous manner to all other participants in the group.  Tolerance is required as this group’s participants level of knowledge is expected to vary based on topics.  It is encouraged that attendees interact and participate in the group’s discussions and activities.  Dress code and demeanor are to appropriate to the study groups meeting location.  Participants are not required but strongly urged to acquire all hardware, software, and paper materials needed to perform or follow along with the studies being presented.

This group abides by all applicable laws.  Illegal and malicious technical activity will not be performed by this study group, nor is it condoned.  Any illegal or malicious activities performed by the participants of this group are of their own doing.

Any individual(s) wishing to present or lead a topic for the group is welcome to present their idea to the group chairs. Presenters of topics for the group are responsible for their own materials, tools, and requirements.  Presenters are expected to abide by the agreed upon subject matter and time frames with which to present.  Presenters are expected to be set up and ready to go at the study group’s designated start time.  If a presenter will not be able to make it to their presentation notice is to be given as soon as possible.  If a presenter has a multiple session topic and misses 2 of the presentation to be given the topic will be pulled and the next study group topic will be implemented.

It is presenters’ responsibility to communicate all requirements needed to participate in the topic and as much time as possible should be given for individuals to acquire the necessities.

This is not intended to be a Teacher-Student environment.  It is not intended to be a meet for individuals to exchange to collaborate and exchange tools for malicious intent or gain.

Authority and Empowerment:

Co-chairs will be charged with determining activity location, approving study topics, and moderating group study sessions.   Advisement will be taken from participants as to what venues to utilize, topics to cover, and pace of the topics presented.  Feedback is always welcome however the co-chairs have final say in all matters pertaining to the study group.   Courteous and professional participation is encouraged, any inappropriate activity is discouraged and any individual(s) performing such behavior will be asked to disjoin from the group.

Resources Available:

Co-chairs will work to provide appropriate locations for the study groups meeting location.  Group size and technical requirements will be accounted for as best possible.  However it is ultimately the presenters and participants’ responsibility to provide hardware, software, and/or paper materials required to present and participate a study topic.

No money’s will be collected to participate in this group.  No solicitation of materials is allowed by presenters of the group.  General recommendations may be made but this is not a sales forum.

Operations:

Study group meetings will vary based on topics covered.  Schedules and locations will be maintained on the study group’s website.  Any changes will be communicated on the group’s website and via its mailing list.
